Keystone XL pipeline supporters, answer me this. Why would we risk 1200 miles of American soil to transport Canadian oil to Chinese refineries? Jobs, you say? Your favorite chain restaurant employs more people than will be required to run the pipeline once its in place. Keystone itself admits only 40-55 permanent jobs will be created once its up and running. The construction phase would employ a few thousand for an average of 6 weeks to 6 months. Energy independence? Its not our oil. It goes on the world market just like every other barrel full. Wed just be writing out checks to a different country. Tell me that all of that is worth putting American families, homes, businesses, and wildlife at risk for an incident like the Deep Horizon/BP spill. Theres only one reason anyone would push to approve this pipeline, and that is to do what they promised their lobbyist theyd do. Do not sit idly by and watch our politicians take a bribe in the guise of bolstering our energy security on fossil fuels. Its a lose/lose for everyone but politicians and Keystone CEOs. The Keystone XL Pipeline is a proposed 1,179-mile (1,897 km), 36-inch-diameter* crude oil pipeline beginning in Hardisty, Alta., and extending south to Steele City, Neb. This pipeline is a critical infrastructure project for the energy security of the United States and for strengthening the American economy. - Transcanada *The BP spill occurred with an exponentially shorter 21-inch-diameter pipe and is STILL being cleaned up.
