Key’s Response Orwellian Like George Orwell’s 1984 John Key thinks he can make us believe the opposite of the truth. He says Nicky Hager’s revelations are just a ‘left-wing smear campaign’! In fact the smears are from National against anyone who opposes them. The evidence is indisputable now even for Key. Judith Collins worked in collusion with Cameron Slater wrongly to smear a civil servant leading to death threats against that person. The reason John Key hasn’t yet sacked Collins is because he himself was involved in the dirty politics Hager exposes. Key employed Jason Ede in his office and at taxpayer expense to do the political dirty work while he pretended he was above it all. Key regularly contacts Slater, knowing full well Slater’s modus operandi is to smear National’s opponents. He can’t escape that connection. It’s now in the public arena. Collins behaviour was not ‘unwise’ as Key was finally forced to admit. It was disgraceful and requires that she be sacked. Her continuing presence in the Cabinet is a stain on Key and on National. First her false claims about Oravida where she was promoting her own self-interest and doing favours for a big National Party donor. Then the smear against journalist Katie Bradford. Now the smear against public servant Simon Pleasants not to mention Slater’s claim that as Minister of ACC she passed on confidential information about an ACC client. To use Key’s rugby analogy, this is a red card not a yellow one. Eventually he’ll have to sack her. The electorate should do the same to him on 20 September.
