Khaled Hardani, an Ahwazi poltical prisoner transfered to Prison clinic due to severe bleeding, suffers from ulcer Khaled Hardani: accused of attempting to hijack an aircraft in the January 2001, Khaled Hardani was one of 11 members of an extended family who attempted to seize a scheduled flight between Ahwaz and Bandar Abbas, and force it to fly to Dubai. The family was reportedly trying to escape the poverty and hopelessness they were experiencing in Ahwaz. Khaled Hardani was sentenced to death on charges of acts against national security and enmity against God (Moharebeh) rather than charges relating specifically to hijacking an aircraft. Khaled Hardani was originally scheduled to hang on 19 January 2005, but the Head of the Judiciary ordered a stay of execution the previous day, apparently to allow lawyers to appeal. His death sentence has been commutated to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court and he is reportedly held in Rajai Shahr prison, in the city of Karaj, around 50km west of Tehran. During his incarceration, Khaled has undergone 8 operation surgeries but his health state was not recovered effectively due to the unhygienic condition in prison. For many times, the prison doctors demanded to send him out of prison to specialized hospital for better treatment but the prison officials denied his dire physical condition and prevented him to be sent out of prison for receiving better medical care. Regarding his relatives we need to mention that Khaled’ mother was trying desperately to stop her son execution that caused her to suffer deeply psychologically and emotionally. She died 8 days prior to official judicial notification of commutation of death penalty of her son, Khaled.
