Khawla Bint Thalabah (RA) the woman who complained,,,, An incident that occurred at the time of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, there was a woman known as Khawla Bint Thalabah she was married to a man called Aws Ibn Al-Samit, she grew old with this man, spent her youth with him and had given him children... one day she had a dispute with her Husband and he said to her You are like my mother.. after that he went out and when he came back he wanted to strike a relation with her, he wanted to sleep with her, she refused she said- No, you said I am like your mother... what do you mean by this? I am going to go to Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam on this occasion, because everyday you are making statements that are hurting me, now that I am old and I cant bare children any more.. I was young I spent my youth with you, now I am old you are showing disrespect to me. Im going to Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam about this This would happen a lot with men and their wives the statement he uttered was known as Ghihar in the Arabic language... So she went to Rasulullah (Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam) I am, Complaining to Allah SWT.. I want to inform you of my situation Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam heard her complain and he answer Yah Khawla..that is your Husband, forgive him.. you dont have to stay away from him She got up, she was satisfied because it was Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam , but she said I am now complaining to Allah SWT Immediately as she got up Aisha (RA) says - I was in another room but I heard the Prophet reciting verses and I knew revelation had came Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah . And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing. Surah Al-Mujadila 58:1 she was called back, in tears she was when Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said Allah has heard your complaint and continued to say Those who pronounce thihar among you [to separate] from their wives - they are not [consequently] their mothers. Their mothers are none but those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they are saying an objectionable statement and a falsehood. But indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving. Surah Al-Mujadila 58:2 Those who make these statements to their wives, they should know these statement are the most detrimental statement totally forbidden by Allah SWT... Husbands should be careful about the statements they make to their wives... #KhawlaBintThalabahLecture ~Mufti Menk
