Kia Ora e hoa ma! Nga mihi o te wa kia koutou katoa. I am sharing a letter I sent to the editor of the Bay of Plenty Times concerning the Matapihi pipeline. Just in case the editor decides not to print it. Can someone forward to Tio Faulkner to show him some support. Maybe us Matapihians should rally behind his application by way of Facebook. Let me know what you think. Me tautoko, ka tika! 15 October, 2014 Letter to the Editor - Matapihi Pipeline Dear Sir I refer to the article on the Matapihi Pipeline Injunction (11.10.14). Here is a lesson in non- communication by the City Council to members of a community who have been taken for granted. Would a Pakeha community be treated the same? I doubt very much. Historically, Matapihi Maori land owners have contributed by force of the law in land-takings for the railway, for roadways, for power lines and now for the sewer line! Even the Airport and Port land was taken by public works legislation from the original Maori owners. The wider community of Tauranga needs to know this background because the frustration for some of us is real. The current pipe construction is very disruptive for residents and Council is non-apologetic or slow to make amends. As a land owner I support wholeheartedly the application by Tio Faulkner to stop the work until all legal issues are resolved. The irony is that Matapihi residents cannot connect to the line once it is in place. Come on Council show some mana. Matiu Dickson
