Kia Toa RFC weekly update. Kia Toa Women vs Foxton Kia Toa Womens rounded off the season with another emphatic win, taking down Foxton 126-0. The game started with a flurry of tries, with several players dotting down before Foxton could even settle. The game was not ideal leading into the final; however several players stood up with standouts both in the backs and forwards. Special mention needs to go to flanker Rennae Peti who once again showed that she is improving with every game. Her support play and defence around the paddock was vital to the cause, allowing space out wide and little gain on attack for the visitors. Prop Elza provided go forward every time that she touched the ball with several surging runs up the middle creating havoc with the Foxton defence. These kinds of runs allowed for plenty of space out wide where Juanita Trow was able to latch onto some great cut out balls from Janna Michal, dotting down for some well worked tries. In her last game for the club, Georgina Lindsay took the honour of player of the day with scything runs and solid defence adding to her previous performances. Georgina has been a consistent performer for the club, and the girls wish her all the best for her future endeavours in Christchurch. Next week is the big one, as the girls look to finish their unbeaten Prue Christie Cup campaign with a win that would take the championship for the year. Steve’s Tyre Service Player of the days: 3. Juanita Trow Kia Toa Presidents vs Te Kawau The Pressies travelled out to Rongotea to take on Te Kawau who we’d had a controversial last minute loss to in the first round. Conditions were excellent and we had good balance across our forward & back playing stocks. Unfortunately the appointed ref pulled up lame just after kick off and once again we were at the hands of a TK supplied stand-in ref! TK have one of the larger packs in the grade and games against them are always physical – it was no different today, including a few moments that got a bit heated! The first half was generally an even contest, though at half time we found ourselves 5-15 down due to a couple of soft tries conceded and poor handling letting us down when scoring opportunities were on offer. As the second half wore on, and both sides started to tire, the game opened up with play regularly moving end to end – ultimately TK’s defence was a little more desperate than ours and we were unable to overcome the first half deficit. A try to Lou in each half was our lot, with a final score of 10-27. A couple of ‘quiets’ in the change room and some hospitality from Te Kawau topped of an otherwise enjoyable afternoon. This is a completely new team. They now look driven and hungry for the ball and were in total control of the game from the first whistle. POD Kelly dominated the circle and it looked like she had found her “mojo” holding, moving and creating options so that the A1 attacks feeding her was easy, thus promoting confidence throughout the rest of the team with her performance. Kia Toa A2 vs Masters – lost 30 – 31 – POD - Georgia The A2 team this week had to take on the old heads. From the start the young team showed patience and maturity and took the lead. Never frightened to take on the old heads POD Georgia took lead from her captain and hunted and confined the Masters team. POD had her coach as her opposition and never let up, contesting the ball every chance she got. The A2 team may have lost however showed they deserved respect and are a force to be contended with. Kia Toa Allsorts vs Marist A2 – win 28 – 24 – POD - Farah Was not able to watch this game this week however it would appear that the maturity of Farah has again lead the team and controlled the game if she was selected POD. Congratulations to the Allsorts on another win! Kia Toa Masters vs Kia Toa A2 – win 31 – 30 – POD Amy POD Amy our little energy bunny kept on going in the game against the A2 team. Contesting the ball and showing that little players can still jump. Controlling the ball throughout the game and making the opposition work hard for the ball. Kia Toa Chasers vs SPOG – draw 30 – 30 I had a chance to watch this game and from the start it looked like it was going to be close. The team this week was lacking in height in the shooting circle however made up for it with drive and determination. Congrats on the draw and never relenting! Kia Toa Cougars vs Bunnythorpe Inspire Net – win 37 – 33 – POD Mate POD Mate helped bring her side to a win. Making the opposition work twice as hard to score any goals and rebounded with grit and determination. Driving the ball down to her attacks and never giving up the entire 40 mins. Kia Toa Social vs Marist Hair Company – lost 36 – 27 – POD Catherine Unfortunately was not able to watch this game; however it would appear that Catherine must have played an outstanding game as the response from her team mates when I asked the score and POD was unanimous. Looking at the scores from previous games the Social team is learning lots and improving with each game.
