Kia-ora Team!, this is a long post so bear with (see what i did there?) A little while ago i had the benefit of sitting down post session with the BMS class (as we have recently started to do) and get feedback from the members. One general theme that came up was that alot of people within the club really didnt know about what BMS was other than perhaps a scary name...... So in an effort to allay some fears and answer some common questions, I have attempted to put together a bit of a FAQ to educate an explain on this. *SPOILER ALERT* - Be advised that the below pertains to the current class format as it stands. We may see some changes in the future. TBA What is BMS? BMS is an acronym that is used within ATP Fitness Club – it stands for Beast Mode Squad. What is the PURPOSE of BMS Classes? BMS is a class for building the strength and transferable skill for exercise application and day to day living via a SPECIFIC focus on body weight based activity. The class aim is the development of quality movement and control through deliberate and structured practice. What level of fitness do i need to be at to participate? Any. This is an open class to all members. What sort of activities can i expect to do at a BMS class? This can vary based on the individual, but we all work as a group. Our core movements are centered around - Push Ups, Dips and Pull Ups and their subsequent variations and regressions. Why should I attend BMS classes? Here are a few examples of why body weight activity / exercises are a desirable addition to any training regime: - No equipment needed. o No gear, no problem. This type of training only needs your body – the best machine ever. - Can decrease / increase the difficulty to suit any individual. o By adjusting body position, tempo, rest, rep ranges and duration of activity, an individual is able to manually tweak the intensity of an exercise. This is particularity good if any pre-exisiting injuries or mobility issues are apparent. - Exercises have many variations from the basics o All body weight movements have a start point. Once these are mastered, an individual can them progress onto more challenging variations for continued strength, mobility and skill gains. - Can be performed ANYWHERE o No matter where you are, body weight training has no defined boundaries in terms of where you choose to workout, be it indoors or outdoors. The best place to practice is @ ATP Fitness Club! Please feel free to contact myself or other members within the ATP training team if you still have concerns or questions. Thank you. Tommo
