Kia ora: We break for the holidays on Thursday, 26th of September - TopicsExpress

Kia ora: We break for the holidays on Thursday, 26th of September for the afternoon session, and Friday, 27th of September for the morning session. Term 4 begins on Monday, 14th of October for both sessions. Our full list of events for term 4 will be sent out in the first week back. Portfolios: The teaching team are in the process of completing summaries for the morning children linking their learning to our philosophy. This is part of the research project we are undertaking at present. We are hoping you will be just as excited by our research project as we are. The research question is “How are our Assessment Practices Informing Our Parents about their Child as a 21st Century Learner?” Please fill out the form just after the summaries, we value your thoughts and aspirations. The children have been learning about our philosophy foci. They are learning how to be Manaakitanga/respectful, how to Whakatau-hara/problem solve, and how to be good at Whakawhitiwhitinga/communication, also learning about Auahatua/creativity and Kiritau/confidence and how to Whakahoahoa/be friends. The children have been heard using this language and demonstrating it every day at kindergarten. Parents have told us that their children are using it at home too. We are so proud of them! This term we have enjoyed a wonderful family picnic on a beautiful Friday afternoon with both sessions, an exciting morning trip to Junglerama, and we celebrated Peace Week. We have had a great parent group meeting, and more parents came along interested in becoming more involved. Thank you! As the end of term is fast approaching, we need to think about the End of Term cleaning. A list of jobs that need doing is by the Sign-In sheets. We need parents to help with these jobs as teachers can concentrate on working with your children. Please choose 1, 2 even 3 jobs that you can do in the last couple of weeks of this term. Any help is much appreciated. Also please give some thought as to when you can be Parent Help for a day. The roster will also be by the sign-in sheet for next term. Session Times: Our morning session starts at 8.20 am and finishes at 12.30 pm. Monday to Friday. Our afternoon session starts at 1.30pm and finishes at 3.30pm. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. You are unable to drop children off before these start times as they will be unsupervised. Please pick up on time as this helps your child feel less anxious. We do understand sometimes things happen and occasionally children are picked up later than usual, if this is unavoidable please give us a call and we will help your child continue to be settled until you come. Parent contributions: Thank you all for continuing to pay the family payments. This is helping us provide a high standard of learning opportunities for our tamariki. Facebook: Thanks for those who have joined our Kindergarten on Facebook. Remember you can get updates, notices, and catch up on our events by going to Doris Nicholson Kindergarten, and click “Like”. Lunch Boxes for the morning: We do try to encourage healthy lunch boxes. Snacks of fresh fruit and vegetables are always good options instead of large cupcakes and giant biscuits. Talking about lunch boxes: Just a reminder - due to severe Peanut allergies within the kindergarten please do not include any nut products ie: Peanut butter, peanut bars, Nutella, raw nuts etc in lunches (this could save a life!). We would also appreciate clean up help at the end of lunchtime as we have to be diligent about crumbs etc being cleared from the environment due to a severe wheat allergy for an afternoon child. Sun Hats: In Term 4, please remember to provide a sunhat for your child (yes summer is almost here... hopefully!!!) On days when it is hot and sunny: “No hat... No outside play!” This is kindergarten policy, and after Labour weekend the policy will be in place. Due to head lice, we no longer provide spare hats, so please ensure your child has their own hat. At the end of term we always have lost hats, so please NAME HATS CLEARLY. Also check to make sure you have the correct hat when you go home, as this can be a problem when 3 or 4 hats are identical. Sun Block: Please apply at home or give to the teaching team to look after and we will reapply when necessary. Shoes: If children can take on and off their shoes as and when they need to, it helps them have a greater sense of independence. Choose shoes they can put on and take off with ease. Fundraising : A huge thank you to Kody’s family who have very generously donated a bobby calf, to the kindergarten. Proceeds from the sale of this calf will be ours. The funds raised will go towards purchasing more trucks for the sand pit. Thanks Kody! Raffles: Mobile phones - a huge thank you to Madilynn’s Mum for sourcing the phones and running the first raffle for one of them. A huge thanks to Rory’s mum for organizing the raffle for the second phone. Rory’s Mum is also going to be running a meat raffle next term for us! Thanks for everyone’s support. It is really appreciated. A Christmas raffle : will also be organized for next term, we will be asking for donated Christmas themed goods nearer to the time. Silent Auction: We will be running a silent auction next term about once a fortnight. If you have quality items you could donate for the auction please see Soreen. Christmas Wrapping Next Term: Please keep this in mind as we need your time! From December the 17th we have a wrapping table booked in the mall in Upper Hutt. We need volunteers to man the table both morning and afternoon, from the 17th of December to the 24th of December, from about 10am til 5pm. We will have a help roster out by the sign-in sheets early next term. We do need your commitment …. this is our biggest fundraiser for the year. We still have to raise over $2000 to meet our fundraising goal! The teaching Team will all be wrapping from the 21st of December, after the term ends. We can’t do this without YOU! Friends and family can get involved too! It is fun and Christmassy! HO HO HO! All proceeds from the Christmas Wrapping will go towards sustainability in the outdoor area. This will include water barrels and other new equipment, as well as the playground development. Abacus Calendars and Diaries: Next term will be working with your children to make artwork for calendars and diaries. These have been very popular in the past as Christmas gifts for family and friends. More information will follow. Greeting Cards: Soreen would like to see anyone who is interested in scrap booking, to launch a new fundraising scheme using children’s artwork to make greeting card packs to sell. Please see Soreen if you can help. Collage items needed: • Old greeting cards • Chocolate wrappers • Ribbon • String • Bottle tops • Corks • Small boxes We are unable to take egg cartons, toilet rolls or medicine boxes. We are always looking for wood off cuts for the carpentry area … please feel free to bring in any wood. Thank you Caden King’s family for supplying us with wood over winter and the donation of nails. Kia hora te marino Kia whaka papa pounamu to moana Hei huarahi mo tatou i te rangi nei Aroha i a tatou katoa. May there be calmness May the seas be flat as greenstone May there be a path for us to follow to-day Let us give and accept Aroha. NZEI News: All Kids Deserve the Best Start This Early Childhood Education focused campaign is about all of us fighting to protect a quality public education system which is fair and equitable, based on collaboration and trust and where every child’s learning needs are met.
