Kia ora e te Iwi, have been meaning to put up some pics from the E hoki ki to Ukaipo conference held at Turangawaewae Marae. Felt very privileged sitting there listening to all of the inspiring and very real korero going on in the room. Truly an eye opening experience, so livid from your vivid presentation Mr Vic Tamati it takes such courage to stand up and shed light on the most darkest of corners in our society, kia kaha koe :) Last year I received the tono from passionate, inspiring wahine toa sisters Amy Wray and Alys Brown to tautoko/support their two kaupapa nui The Wahakura (flax woven sleeping pod(s) for infants) and the Mama Aroha talk cards, which is a resource to help with the age old art of breastfeeding. We launched these kaupapa last week. Immunised by mama :) I want to also acknowledge the inspiring photographer Erica Sinclair for her eye and support in capturing the images of me and Makeo used for these two intertwining kaupapa, nga mihi aroha ano e hoa :) The wahakura is a beautiful hand woven sleeping pod for baby. Its traditionally handmade out of all natural fibres from our native Harakeke/flax plant. It is a Taonga, the fresh and natural healing aroma allows for baby to have his/her own sleeping and air space while still being nice and snug close to mama and papa. Nice and light, malleable as, we took it everywhere when my Makeo slept in his one :) Both my boys were fully breastfed their first 9 months of life. I had that belief that it was the most natural thing in the world, it is but truth be told at first it was so tiring and mamae. There is actually an art to it and I had to work at mastering that art and sticking to it. It does take time but once you get it life is so much easier for you, for baby, for health and for the pocket :) The breastfeeding picture talk cards are so informative, such a practical and supportive resource for the whole whaanau :) Ano nei te mihi :) have a choice weekend...go the ABs!!
