Kia ora e te iwi. I share a lot of my research mahi on here - TopicsExpress

Kia ora e te iwi. I share a lot of my research mahi on here because heaps of the research that curators do, probably only about 20% reaches the exhibition floor or is published. But dealing with whanau Maori stories and ancestors makes you really sensitive to how you handle their stories, treating it as a privilege rather than a right to be able to tell stories to the wider world. Sharing the WWI soldiers stories on here as I work on a WWI exhibition for Te Papa has been so rewarding as well as nerve-wracking. I have always worried that descendants might get angry at the stories being told on a public forum, so Ive always been careful that anything I share on here is already available on other public channels, and not to go into detail that is too personal. The most amazing thing is that all the feedback Ive been getting from families especially, has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you to everyone on here that continues to respond with such aroha to the Maori Contingent stories Ive been sharing. Ill continue to do it until the exhibition research mahi is completed, and maybe beyond. If you have any questions about the various stories I profile, feel free to contact me.
