‘Kick-Ass 2′: Director Reacts to Carrey’s Change of Heart; Moretz’s Character Re-Written to be Less “Male Centered” "So, a few months back, Jim Carrey took to Twitter to say that he “could not support the level of violence” in Kick-Ass 2, which was filmed prior to the Sandy Hook Tragedy. Since his sudden change of heart, Carrey’s Kick-Ass 2 co-stars (namely John Leguizamo and Chloë Moretz) have defended the movie against Carrey’s statements, and now, we have Writer/Director Jeff Wadlow giving his take on the situation. “Here’s my take on it; he is entitled to have his own opinion, and he’s entitled to change his opinion. Ultimately, I really believe his performance speaks for itself” Well, I guess that sums it up in a very unbiased, positive manner. I’m finding myself agreeing with Wadlow’s view, and while an actor should be able to separate what’s real from what isn’t, I think this is just one of those “it is what it is” type deals. Although there haven’t been changes to make the movie any less violent (Sorry, Jim), Chloë Moretz claimed in a promotional interview that there was in fact a rewrite focused on her character, aimed to make her less “male centered.” On the first draft with my character it was very male centred so what we had to do… we brought in The Creaseys who was another writing team to collaborate with Jeff and create more of a female side of the character in relation to the maternal aspect. Because you kind of have to have that female driven character, you can’t have the crass eleven year old be fifteen or sixteen, it’s not so cute anymore. She makes a valid point, and a “female side” is a much needed breath of fresh air in an atmosphere filled with a bunch of sweaty guys in superhero costumes. It should be interesting to see how much her character differs from the rest, once Kick-Ass 2 hits theaters this Friday.-Nerdbastards
