Kickin it! I arrived at Gillettes 35 mins early for our bi-weekly meeting with the staff. When I walked into the therapy Gym to find Chaser, I found Chase sitting in front of a huge mirror on Jackis lap with bubbles hitting his legs. Gramma was smiling, and Jacki and Kristin were laughing and cheering Chase on. I layed down on the therapy mat and watched what was going on in amazement. Chaser was flexing his fingers to tap a sensor button, connected to the bubble machine. When he flexed, it would turn on the machine and bubbles would fly out hitting his leg. As they hit his leg, he would twitch it away. The gals were encouraging him to touch the button to turn it on and off while Kristin held his wrist to feel his muscles flex. As he did this, you could see a little smerk on the side of his mouth. They switched from the bubble machine to a fan, using the same technique, Chase turned the fan off and on a couple of times. Then they decided to try something new. They elevated Chase off the floor on Jackies lap, with his legs inches above the floor, and placed plastic bowling pins in front of his feet. They asked him to kick them, and 2 seconds later, Chaser flexed his leg a little. A couple more little movements and ...Bam! he kicked two of them down. Then again, and again. Chase was doing this completely on his own and on command! Needless to say, it was a pretty exciting 30 mins for dad. The meeting with the staff went well. We had a couple of the therapists from Chasers school (Circle of Friends) attend, so they can get a feel for where he is at, and start to access how they can incorporate him in some programs at school in the fall...yes, school in the fall! The meeting went well. We all agreed that Chase has made some remarkable progress. We are going to continue to put more feed into his G-tube, and less in his J-Tube. We are going to combine a few of the meds, and continue to space others out, while trying to eliminate others. We have switched his formula to a different kind and added fiber to get away from the runny stools. Unfortunately, because of the runny stools, and his complicated meds schedule, his coming home date has been pushed out until June 28th. -But we are ok with this. I would much rather bring him home when he is good and ready than have to go back. Plus, while he is there, he gets to work with the Rock star therapists that we have grown to admire and appreciate. Today was a good day! I hope it was for you too Lily. Gramma Judy wanted you to know that she and Chaser put there hands together and said a big prayer for you! God is Good!
