Kidapawan City LGU intensifies campaign against rabies KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato, Oct. 9 (PIA)—The local government of Kidapawan City has strengthened its campaign against the deadly rabies which is primarily caused by dog bites. City Mayor Joseph Evangelista recently signed an executive order forming the Anti-Rabies Task Force of the city to address such issue. “The spread of rabies is a public safety concern that needs to be addressed,” Evangelista explained. City Health Office recorded more than 300 cases of dog bites in all 40 villages of the city from January until the month of September this year. On the other hand, one was reported dead from complications brought by rabies. “We urged the public to have their pet dogs brought to the Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet) for vaccination,” he said. The Mayor likewise warn dog owners that OCVet personnel will apprehend their pets once these are caught roaming outside their residences. He stated that apprehended dogs will be confined at the City Dog Pound facility of the OCVet and will be obtained only if the owner pays the required penalty. Meanwhile, OCVet reported that they have given free anti-rabies vaccine to 55 dogs in Barangay Poblacion village in observance of the World Rabies Day on September 28 this year. Aside from the anti-rabies vaccination, the veterinary office also conducts free castrating and spaying services. Joining the OCVet were teams from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) as well as veterinary medicine students from the University of Southern Mindanao main campus in Kabacan.
