Kidex: Khalid too should listen. Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim says - TopicsExpress

Kidex: Khalid too should listen. Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim says the Kidex project will go ahead in Selangor despite protests by residents. He has asked the residents to listen, saying that his government will not accommodate those with extreme views. Khalid needs to understand that there is nothing wrong or extreme about objecting to this project. Residents have a right to object and that is exactly what they are doing, merely exercising their rights. He should as Menteri Besar, respect that. He further says there is a need to listen. That applies to him as well. Khalid should have listened to the people or his elected reps first before approving the project. Even now, after all the protests, Khalid has failed to do this. This has come across as arrogant and is consistent with the one man show label sprung against him in the State Legislative Assembly sitting recently. This is the reason why people are protesting. This is why people are unhappy and they have reason, I think, to so be. Let me assure Khalid that rakyat are not opposed to development. We all support the push to reduce traffic congestion in Selangor but this does not give Khalid the right to ignore everything else. There must be, whatever the case, good governance. Khalid should not expect the people or his elected reps to just lie down and take his directives silently. This is a democratic nation and the people have the right to be heard. Pakatan Rakyat in its manifesto stood firm against toll. The people voted for Pakatan Rakyat on the strength of these promises. The people also voted for Pakatan Rakyat holding on to the belief that it was different and more people orientated. Khalid argues that this is a Federal project beyond his control. He may or may not be right and the Federal government should be criticized as well but it is for him to convince the people that this is the case. But we do not see Khalid putting up a fight. We do not see him trying to understand the problem from the perspective of those affected. We do not see him speaking up against toll. We do not see him speaking up over the mass destruction such a project will bring to the lives of the many who would be affected by this project. Khalid should recognize this and the impact it has had on the people and this is why there has been so much protest against the project and anger against his administration. As Member of Parliament for Puchong, I stand with the people and demand that Khalid abide by the promises made by Pakatan Rakyat to the people in its 2008 and 2013 campaign. If Selangor is forced into a corner by the Federal government let us have the courage to fight back and do all that we can to stand by our election promises to the people. Whatever the outcome, this is the change which Pakatan Rakyat needs to demonstrate and Malaysia needs now to see. GOBIND SINGH DEO MP Puchong.
