Kidney Cancer immunotherapy medications can keep people alive and healthy for months or years. For many, these medications will only work for so long, and/or the patients body stops tolerating it. Most Provinces will only cover one; after that, access to treatment depends on finances or access to private insurance. Some Provinces will not even cover one round of medication; or they require the patient to pay first and ask for reimbursement (for medicine that may cost $6000-8000 per month, and while the patient is probably not able to work). A persons access to treatment and survival should NOT depend on whether they take their treatment orally or intravenously. A collective of Cancer organizations agrees: make treatment access FAIR for all Canadians, no matter where they live.
