Kilkenny East might yet have a Labour councillor. According to the joint tally carried out by all parties, it shows sitting Cllr, Tommy Prendergast of Labour on 632 votes. Cllr Marie Fitzpatrick (Lab) is on 345 and Cllr Ml OBrien (Lab) is on 326. The Sinn Fein candidate David Kennedy is on 616 and after the transfers, Tommy Prendergast could be above him and might take the sixth and final seat. However, if not, Sean Treacy will fight the last seat with David Kennedy. Cllr Andrew McGuinness, son and parliamentary secretary of Deputy John McGuinness will head the poll and the big surprise will be the performance of first time FF candidate and former hurler, Peter Chap Cleere from Skeoughvosteen. He is just under 1,000 votes and assured of a seat. Fine Gael should hold their two seats with Patrick ONeill, Bennettsbridge and Michael Doyle, the Rower.
