Kimberly Wee- Ebol on covering the papal visit: As a photographer, Ive always had the perks of taking good photos of different types of people in different walks of life with different kinds of emotions that gives everyone different ways to keep memories that would be treasured forever. And yesterday, January 18, 2015, Sunday, was no exception. I have had the opportunity to add something new to that perks - taking photos of the Pope during his visit in my beloved university, the University of Santo Tomas. As early as the afternoon before the day of the momentous occasion, Ive seen so many people lining up outside the gates of the university. Their faith was so strong that they were all willing to stand for a very long time just to see the beloved Pope Francis. They were all so patient, waiting with excitement, probably wondering how he would look like in person, how wonderful it would feel after seeing him in person, or how amazing it is to be a part of history. And when that time came, the emotions of the people around me were indescribable. They were shouting, calling him, greeting him with warm Hellos, welcoming him in the university with open arms. A gallon of tears were probably shed on that day. Tears of joy, tears of empathy, tears of people in awe. After the event, the first three words I thought of were Back to Reality. When we get back to reality, may the Papal Visit not only be a part of history, may it also be a living reminder that a man of God came in our presence for a reason: to shine for God, to be a living testimony of Gods love, and to spread Gods truth to us, whose hearts, which were then closed became open to what the Lord would want us to hear. Just like our welcoming hearts for the Pope, may our hearts be open to the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, likewise. May we learn to open our hearts, ears and minds to the truth that God wants us to hear and keep in mind that He loves us, that He sent the Lord Jesus Christ to die for us so that we can have the eternal life that we dont deserve, but we still received anyways, and that is Grace - Gods free gift to mankind.
