Kims TV show for the 25th of October 2014: Highlander (the series) (1992/1998) Complementary to, rather than following on from or a reimagining of the Films. The series was an international hit and was nominated three times for the Gemini Awards and once for a Saturn Award in 1998. It told (over 6 seasons and some follow-on films) the story of the Immortal Duncan MacLeod (played by the gorgeous Adrian Paul): there was a great balance between Historical flashbacks, Modern Story, and World/Mythology Building coupled with more believable characters than one would have imagined in a tale whose plot was basically Sword Wielding Immortals walk among us in secret. The Music, written by Queen for the First Movie was reused to good effect, likewise modern tracks, and the series attracted quite a few musicians as guest stars such as Joan Jett and Roger Daltrey. Kim and I loved these shows a lot, although we found the follow-up films a bit inconsistent. Its been off the air since 98, and the DVDs (region one only) are neither cheap nor easy to come by, but if theyre on Netflix or Amazon, theyre well worth a watch.
