Kind of cool-- bragging here: I was very fortunate to teach in Okeechobee County for 21 years. Phoebe Raulerson, Jean Dilsaver, and Randy Paulson always encouraged going for it. In an effort to get an Educational Grant, the Rotary put forth some challenges. I wrote a proposal and got $1000 that year... 1/2 was used to take 4 th graders to the Battle of Okeechobee Reenactment and the other to use Art and History together. Our CES students went and did so well, made an impression on Dowling Watford and ensured that future classes would continue to go each year! Thanking God, HE gave me an idea for art. (Actually one my pal Teri Dixon did years prior.) My class created a quilt with a historical timeline. Those kids are now... Juniors!!! That quilt is now on display in the Historical School House. I was tickled, humbled, and so blessed to see it hung and very proud of the legacy of teaching that I was a part of at Central Elementary. And BTW, the Battle of Okeechobee -will come again in February ! And how ironic, now I am blessed to teach at the Brighton Reservation where we learn of those Seminole Wars.
