Kind of shocked and disappointed by what I heard of Greenhouse - TopicsExpress

Kind of shocked and disappointed by what I heard of Greenhouse Rebellion this afternoon. Normally a voice of progressive ideas and sustainability, there was the sound of twisting of words and facts. There was a public meeting held by Brightfields last night at the Eurma Hayes Center, addressing the concerns of some NE Carbondale citizens that the installation of a solar power generation plant on the former Koppers creosote site. First the hosts were shocked that the company said it could only place the plant there, since the sun shines the same everywhere in Carbondale, when obivously this brownfield site is likely to be substantially cheaper land -- since it is *contaminated.* So a company is going to make use of lower cost land in a way that benefits them (of course) as well as Carbondale. Land that otherwise is unlike to find other use. The contaminants are localized and of a sort that are not mobile in the air or water -- and they will continue to be remediated on the site. Then the hosts denigrated Adam Loos (who is running for City council, of all things) and obviously took his comment (that the attendees of the meeting did not constitute all of Carbondale -- ie, it was mainly media and politicians and those opposed to the project), way out of context -- something that anyone could see. I expect this kind of trickery of some shades of politicians, but really not from Greenhouse Rebellion. Can we not be honest and true?
