( Read Aldous Huxleys Brave New World --Revisited --chilling thoughts..! ) All right thinking people must wake up and do something before it is too late..! Subj: David Ching --SINGAPORE - A SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION THAT WENT HORRIBLY WRONG Post date: 29 Oct 2013 - 12:25pm (Hi TRS, would appreciate if you do not change or insert any word to the title & article as Ive already personally handed in a petition in hard copy to a minister, which Ill email you soon. Thanks a million) More than 2 decades ago, a decision was made to open up Singapore society even more to the world. Within the exclusive confines of the Singapore Government, a utopian idea was being rolled out. Singapore would be a cosmopolitan city. Immigrants would embrace our meritocracy as well as racial and religious harmony. Over time, immigrants would integrate with us, bound together with a common ground and destiny. It did not turn out that way. Our meritocracy is more of an irritant to foreigners, especially those from the Third World where they do not necessarily share the same values. To get that prized job in Singapore, it is all about hefty agency fees, fake certificates, kickbacks to the hiring manager, badmouthing locals and, above all else, the same nationality as the department head. Thus, the social evil of hiring their own kind is firmly entrenched in our economy now. Integrate? No, many foreigners view this city-state as an extension of their homeland and see no reason why they should adapt. In fact, many are annoyed at the presence of Singaporeans as it reminds them that they are not in their own country. Hence, the other social evil of sticking with their own is all too visible and it permeates the entire foreign community, from expatriates and low-skilled workers to scholarship holders. A cosmopolitan city? No, we have failed miserably simply because the powers that be allowed foreign tribalists into our once beloved and envied country. We are now confronted with the reality of a fragmented state, divided along countries of origin. Lest some may think that I can only complain, I have spent the last several months petitioning ministers and MPs to freeze the foreign influx and contain anti-foreign (and anti-Singaporean) sentiment. Some of my earlier suggestions have also been published by TRS. I hope to show you soon an 8-point proposal which Ive handed to a minister in early October.
