Kindly delete source if sharing; thank you. Subject: About SMRT and Spore mayors..... Not a bad idea to get HK MTR to run Singapore MRT! Get the professionals (foreign talent) in and get rid of the overpaid amateurs………… Yes there are certainly areas of our lives in Singapore, which we mustnt be too proud of... or boast about! especially if we try to compare with mass-transport systems in other cities. plus: other comparisons including town mayors, etc. Our top administrators are paid so well... do we then get good or better and more efficient services... Well, You read and decide.. With complaints of overcrowding and breakdowns, here are some comparisons, especially with the Hong Kongs MTR. From personal experience, it is not only the efficiency that impressed me but also the courtesy of the staff and commuters. I remember vividly two pleasant instances. A dozen of us seniors entered a crowded train when many younger men & women stood up and offered their seats for us. We were pleasantly surprised. And there are no signs indicating seats reserved for the elderly, unlike our MRT which are often taken by young people without giving up the seats to the elderly. Another; we couldnt locate the ticket booth & there was no entrance barrier on their LTR (to take us back to our hotel one night) when our LTR arrived. We hopped in and decided to pay at our destination. On arriving we approached a staff to explain and pay. He merely lifted the exit barrier & waved us through gratis. He knew we were foreigners and so even offered to show us the direction to our hotel. How can visitors not be impressed with Hong Kong! Much we can learn from them. SMRT Singapore Rail Track is Very Short: How big is our Singapore MRT system compared with New York’s train system? How many kilometres of train tracks? Answer: Singapore = 149km New York = 1,056 km of revenue tracks and 1,355 km of non-revenue tracks. How big is our Singapore MRT system compared with Hong Kong’s train system? How many kilometres of train tracks? Answer: Singapore = 149km Hong Kong = 218km Singapore got 5 mayors. New York only got 1 (salary: US$250,000/year) Shanghai (30 million population or more) has 1 mayor. Well, HK’s MTR has a 99.9% on time performance and because of its reputation for efficiency and cost effectiveness it is now being invited to run the MRT systems of many other large global cities. Does SMRT get such invitations? What is Singapores MRT time performance? Perhaps the government should invite HK’s MTR to run our MRT as some large cities have done and find that their on time performance magically go up?
