King James Bible In 2011 Gove planned to provide every school in Britain with a copy of the King James Bible, inscribed "presented by the Secretary of State for Education", to celebrate the 400th anniversary of its translation into English.[36][37][38] Gove described the King James as "the most important book in the English language", and insisted that every student should have the opportunity to appreciate its literary riches.[38] The project ran into difficulty when the education secretary was required to find private funding to complete it.[37][38] Private sponsors paid for the Bibles, which were distributed in June 2012.
