King Mohammed celebrates his 51st birthday King Mohammed VI of Morocco turns 51 today, Thursday August 21st. Mohammed, born in Rabat in 1963, is the 23rd king of the Alaouite Dynasty and a direct descendent from the prophet of Islam, Sidna Mohammed. This family has ruled Morocco ever since 1631, when Moulay Ali Cherif became Prince of Tafilalt. King Mohammed was pronounced king upon the death of his father, King Hassan II, in July 1999. A few years later, on July 12th in 2002, he married Salma Bennani, who then became Princess Lalla Salma. The wedding lasted three days, and guests came from all all over the world to participate in the celebrations. King Mohammed and Princess Lalla Salma have two children born in 2003 and 2007: Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Princess Lalla Khadija.
