Kings Juniors have won the Association of Junior Independent Schools Under-11 Northern Rugby Sevens - putting the cream of the regions young rugby talent to the sword in a dominant display. Skipper and fly-half Ben Kersh, who bagged 10 tries in the 16 team championship, explained the secret of their success: “We are a team. Everyone plays for one another and each one of us is equally determined. Its about the team not about individuals.” Playing in perfect conditions at Merchant Taylors School in Crosby, Kings cruised through the round robin beating Cheadle Hulme 57 – 0, Manchester Grammar School 21 – 7 and Birkenhead 53 – 0. In the semi-final Kings played MGS again giving them another lesson with a 49 - 14 victory before the final against Kirkham, supposedly the toughest team in the tournament, who were ran ragged in a 42 – 7 win. The boys have also enjoyed an outstanding 12-a-side season and are unbeaten in their 10 games so far.
