Kiptere sweet potato farmers have reason to smile As tea prices spiral downwards in the county the sweet potato farmers of Kiptere area start to reap for their hardwork. The UK based SACOMA collected 3 tonnes of sweet potato this week. The farmers were paid instantly. It is now all systems-go as Finlays Ltd avail their cargo planes to be used to transport the Kericho county produce to the UK. According to Mrs Perez Ochieng, the SACOMAs CEO the sweet potatoes arrived to the UK as fresh as they were in the farm. I think Finlays have excellent refrigerating facilities. Despite the fact that their shipping prices will rise from Wednesday - we will stick to them for this quality work. SACOMA is now expected to employ upto 5 locals to be involved in collection, packaging and dispatch. The success of the Kiptere sweet potato farmers, SACOMA and Finlays venture will come as a relief for the Governor Prof Chepkwony. He had been accused by the county assembly of entering into such agreements before consultations.
