Kirk Hammett Discusses Orion Music + More Festival News - Saturday, June 8th, 2013 Share Share Share Share hammett Audio Ink Radio recently sat down with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett to discuss the band’s second multi-genre, two-day music festival, Orion Music + More and the reasons why it has been relocated to Detroit’s Belle Isle. A couple of excerpts from the chat can be read below. Last year, the festival was held in Atlantic City, N.J.. Hammett explained that while it was a good location, there were several reasons why the festival couldn’t stay there: “It was difficult for a lot of people to get to, and there were a lot of other different factors involved that made it more difficult for us to go back to Atlantic City.” He said that Detroit was more viable: “Also, logistically, it enabled people to come from all sorts of different directions…People from the Midwest will be able to see us, people from maybe Canada—it’s just a better access place overall.” Furthermore, Hammett explained that Metallica hoped the festival would help to boost Detroit’s struggling economy: “We realize that Detroit is a bit down in dumps right now economically, and we’re hoping these shows will help Detroit a little bit in that department,” he said. Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline this year’s Orion Music + More, which is being held this weekend (June 8 and 9). The festival will also feature performances by Rise Against, Deftones, Bassnectar, the Joy Formidable, Death Grips, the Dirtbombs, Death, Battlecross, Foals, Tomahawk and many more.
