My name is Minesh K Prajapati, and I am the Finance Director of Skylark Creative Products Ltd. SKYLARK, Skylark is a small bird, that sings at a very great height and that is how our directors adopted this name. Our directors also wanted to reach those great heights and sing about their achievements and that’s why you see me here representing Skylark. A marketing arm of Skylark Group was launched in 2005, to brand and market the products of Skylark Construction the flagship company. We deal in supply of general hardware, Building Materials & Interior decorative products. Currently we are marketing our products in Nyanza, Western and parts of Rift valley Provinces but intend to move to the East African regional market in the next one or two years. Our customers are attended on one to one basis and they get back up services as well as knowledge of our new products which are cost effective & pocket friendly. Our Motto is “Royal living” – Which states that, you can still live like a King without being crowned as a King. Our Vision reinforces that every building is our domain, every customer & customer activity is our opportunity. This vision fuels the passion that we have for our customers, pushing us to provide innovative & creative solutions to uniquely meet their needs. Our Mission; Skylark is in the home improvement business & our goal is to provide the highest level of service, the broadest selection of products at the most competitive prices. In 2008, just after the concluded general elections, we had suffered a loss of about Ksh40 million due to violence in Kisumu at that time. However, “Our Group Chairman Mr. Vinod R. Patel sat down with the banks & suppliers and told them we have only two options, either close shop, or go back to business with their support. They opted for the latter. In 2009, we joined the Kenya Top100 mid-sized companies survey, which targets firms whose annual turnover ranges between Ksh70 million and Ksh1 billion and we felt that, we are in that category and decided to participate in the survey. To our surprise we received a call from Top100 and followed by Invitation card to attend the function as we had been selected amongst the Top100 mid size companies in Kenya. On receiving this award, the banks and suppliers started warming up to do business with our company. The banks easily provided credit facilities for our expansion projects of the Company. The award ment a lot for the company and carried more weight in the business fraternity since, all our stationery had Top100 logo and became easy to trade with our new suppliers. After the first ranking, the company obtained an ISO 9001:2008 Certification on Quality Management System in a record of three months, which attributes to being part of the Top100 mid-sized company’s survey, and being rated amongst Top100 firm’s means a company’s accounts have been audited by reputable audit firms. Through participation in events such as Top100 companies, not only have we achieved high growth in sales but also built a reputation for a company that provides quality products. We have hugely enjoyed our participation in the top100 league for last 5 years and are honoured to be part of the TOP100 family; As Top100 mark creates a brand on its own and for our company. Last but not least, we would strongly urge the companies especially in the western region to participate in the TOP100 survey to enable them move forward with pride and enthusiasm. Finally, we appreciate the opportunities Top100 club has created in the last 6 years or so for small mid size business to grow at a faster speed.
