Kiwis heading to masters World Champs At least 10 Kiwis will fly our national colours at the UCI World Masters Cycling road champs being held in Trento in northern Italy between the 19th and 22nd of September. It’s a tough course that includes a 20 kilometre climb, but for Christchurch cyclist and physio Graeme Nuttridge it’s the chance of a lifetime. “It (the course) doesn’t really suit me but it’s a chance to represent my country and I’m going to make the most of it,” he says. “I’m training hard through the winter and I’m just looking forward to taking it all in and being part of it.” BikeNZ’s Emma Bryant says riders were selected from wildcards and national champions from April’s BikeNZ Club Road National Championships. “There are riders who didn’t get wildcards but gave an expression of interest in attending so were awarded a spot through being national champions, however not all of them are attending.” Bryant explained it was up to riders to register so could not confirm the final cyclists definitely going. She pointed out there were a few other riders who had qualified through other overseas events as well. Qualified wildcard entries and National Champions (from expressions of interest) were: Fiona Southorn Lesley Mouat Sara Harnett Sarah Morrison Jim McMurray David Rowlands Ian Seddon Karl Murray Graham Nuttridge Peter Murphy Stephen Sheldrake Ray Dunstan Richard Justice The road race finishes on top of Monte Bondone at an elevation of 1654 meters. Total elevation of the race is 2974 meters. The 25 kilometre time trial is in Cavedine in the Lake Valley (Valli dei LLaghi) and includes a two kilometre climb but organisers say it is ‘a time trial for real specialists.’
