#KkbBlend Kinkiliba Drama Competition 2014 is here this Friday. It will be big, educative, entertaining and will bring to the spot light some of Gambias young talents that we seldom see perform. The topics for this years competition are wisely selected to bring to our attention to some of the most important things to our society but are rarely discussed in the mainstream. Should children work to get paid? Should employers consider the result on a candidates paper or should they look for experience and Why are there high rates of divorce in our matrimonial homes these days. These are topics our young talented ladies and gentlemen from the competing schools and organisations will try to answer for us. So we all need to be part of it to support our fellow youth who are working hard in school and also want the society to get better. You really dont want to miss this event. To get a little bit more information about the KKB Drama Competition, I caught up with Bakary Jadama (The President of Kinkiliba) to tell us more. However due to a network disruption on my side, I was not able to ask him more question. But hopefully he will give us more last minute update in the comment section here. Below is the conversation I had with Bjados. ========================================================= Lamin Darboe Welcome once again to our KKB discussion. Its been a while since we last had a discussion and that was more about you of course than KKB. Since then a lot have happen. So how is everything going for you and your group? Bakary Jadama I will say Alhamdulilah, things are going fast in some areas and slow in some but so far, we are staying on our feet and trying to develop in areas possible. Lamin Darboe That is great. Now I would like you to talk to us about many things but one of the endeavor of Kinkiliba Group that seem to be gaining momentum since the last one is the Drama Competition. For that reason I will focus this conversation on that in other to understand more about it. So give us a general run down of Kinkiliba Drama Competition. Bakary Jadama The Kinkiliba Drama Competition is an annual competition that comes in April and at its the second year running, basically, the concept is about talent exposure but more so, it is to bring out topics that are rarely seen in the drama scenery but really essential to our daily lives especially to the young ones coming up. So we clash both senior schools and youth groups which are active in the drama scenes to show the best they have, and gradually, we are growing it to a national forum with new innovations each year. Lamin Darboe How do you come about setting up the topic on which the participants will compete? Bakary Jadama For that, its a lot complicated, because we as the executives, have to scout for topics and when we come to choosing, we all give out our topics, out of all the topics submitted which are all great topics, we choose the 3 best and most suitable and then give them a phrase each, and these topics, have to be topics that will be quiet challenging to all the groups added to the rules laid out to them for the competition. Lamin Darboe Do you give each group a specific topic or do they choose from the three final topics or do they have to compete in all three topics? Bakary Jadama Topics are marked as 1, 2 & 3, so they have to act in all topics in sequence order as the first round, second and then third. First is on video, second and third are stage performances and all are allocated a specific time frame. Lamin Darboe Can you tell us what this year’s topics are? Bakary Jadama 1) Should Child labour on wages be allowed or not? (Pre-recorded video) 5 minutes 2) Should employment be based on papers or experience? 10 minutes 3) What are the causes of divorce? 10 minutes Lamin Darboe Those are really interesting topics as they are issues relevant to our society. Now lets talk about the event and we can come back to the content later. This will take place on this Friday, correct? Bakary Jadama Yes right, This Friday, 11th April, at Alliance Franco, D75 before the date, and D100 at the gate. Lamin Darboe That is a fair cost for the ticket given the significance of the topic and the talent that will be showcased. At what time will the event start on Friday? Bakary Jadama We are starting prompt at 19:30 (7:30pm). Lamin Darboe How many schools and youth organizations are participating this year? Bakary Jadama 6 in total, 2 senior schools and 4 youth organizations. Lamin Darboe What are some of the things we should be expecting to see this year? Bakary Jadama Last year, everything really surpassed my expectation with loads of surprises and acts, and this year, we are better prepared and I’m sure, we will see better performance, and more of everything.
