Klamath & Lake Community Action Services (KLCAS) will host its annual winter giveaway and homeless count Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Klamath Assembly of God church. Individuals and families will receive a variety of winter clothing items, including new or gently used winter jackets, hats, gloves and blankets, as well as a hot meal. The church is at 235 S. Laguna St. The event is intended for people who are homeless or on the brink of becoming homeless. Those people might be doubled up or couch surfing, sleeping in their cars on the street or camping, living in motels or hotels, sleeping in a transitional or emergency shelter, or living in a place not meant for humans. The giveaway event is organized to help count the local homeless population, which is a requirement for KLCAS from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development; an accurate count is needed for the organization to receive funding for its various types of homeless programs to serve those in need. There are similar events planned in Sprague River, Chemult, and Lakeview. For more information call: 541-882-3500 or visit klcas.org.
