Klickitat County Republican Party (KCRP) resolution against the increase of the national debt limit. Whereas – Under Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, congress has sole power to borrow money on the credit of the United States. Whereas – The debt of the United States is passed from preceding generations to those that follow. Whereas – Increasing the debt load of the United States is in actuality theft of productivity and the livelihood of future generations and posterity and selfishly uses it on behalf of those currently in control of the political landscape. Whereas – The current debt load of 17 Trillion dollars (debt on the books. Our currently unfunded obligations and promises total many times this amount.) must, by definition, be passed to subsequent generations who will be forced to pay for these obligations with much higher taxes and lower standards of living than we currently enjoy. Whereas – The groups that benefit the most from this reckless policy of increasing the debt on the nation are special interest groups such as multi-national conglomerates, politicians who reap benefits from those in control of large government contracts, and organized groups with huge political clout. (i.e. big labor, the environmental lobby, educational interests) Whereas – The congress has shown NO indication of slowing the rate of increase of debt being passed to subsequent generations who reap dubious benefits from the increase and who have no vote or influence in the decision-making process. Whereas – Recent failures to curb spending has resulted in the dangerous downgrading of United States credit. Whereas – In a letter to James Madison in 1789, Thomas Jefferson, one of our nations greatest philosophers said: "The conclusion then, is, that neither the representatives of a nation, nor the whole nation itself assembled, can validly engage debts beyond what they may pay in their own time." Be it resolved: - The KCRP, being acutely aware that the amoral inter-generational debt being accrued by Americans currently in control of the political landscape must eventually be paid back by subsequent generations, strongly reject further increasing of the debt load of our nation and our posterity, and instead endorse a policy of controlling and reducing our spending so that the pointless national debt be paid back down to reasonable levels. - The KCRP holds responsible, and will take all necessary political action for or against any and all elected officials, regardless of party affiliation, for their actions in continuing the reckless policies of profligate borrowing and spending in the upcoming congressional debate on the United States debt limit.
