Knocking on 5 years at my current job as paper carrier after a Scottish tech company laid me off following Obummers 1st election in 2008. Under-employment continues for me. The only notable fact of my current situation is that Ive never missed a day of work in that 5 years! Not even one. Its too easy, and too fun to miss. So as with any anniversary, I take mental notes about it, and keep them. This is one you could use.... After making very minor changes to my somewhat slimly detailed LinkedIn profile a few weeks ago there are suddenly a few very pointed headhunter contacts with new job offers via email for the tech field! I didnt go back to my LinkedIn account to restart any job search. Former colleagues were seeking endorsements from me, and I owe it to them to help if I can. The difference from 5 years ago is striking to me. The unsolicited offers are very close to my skill set. Even if you dont think you are looking for a new job, you are! They are looking for you. I strongly advice that you build, keep, and maintain a LinkedIn profile. Its nothing like FB. But it could change your life, whereas FB cannot. Keep in mind that LinkedIn is NOT a job search site. It is a networking site. It can help you advance in your current job as much as it can lead to you to new employees and new customers. Connections have impacts unseen.
