Knocking on doors today, one voter told me he wasnt going to vote - TopicsExpress

Knocking on doors today, one voter told me he wasnt going to vote because he suffers from emphysema, didnt have a car and couldnt walk the mile or so to the polling station. When I told him we could arrange transport for him he almost burst into tears. Turned out he had only ever voted once, though he was obviously in his 50s. It had been a General Election though he couldnt remember when and he couldnt really remember who he voted for. However, today he really wanted to make his vote count and he had been distraught that his illness had looked like preventing him. I personally drove him round to Douglas Community Centre and quietly smiled as he shuffled in to the hall, his wife holding him tenderly by the arm. His joy after he came out and we returned home is difficult to describe. The vote gave him and people like him the length and breadth of Scotland at least a glimmer of hope. I just hope we havent let them down.
