Know Thine Enemy We know that we are of God, and the whole - TopicsExpress

Know Thine Enemy We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. 1 John 5:19 Super Bowl XLVIII: The Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos by 35 points. A Seahawks defensive player thinks he knows why. Cornerback Richard Sherman claims that the Seahawks defense had cracked the code of Broncos quarterback Peyton Mannings hand signals. Sherman says they knew the basic play the Broncos were going to run based on the last-second hand signals Manning gave his team at the line of scrimmage. Well leave the accuracy of the decoding to the sports analysts and focus on a principle: Knowing the strategy of ones opponent, or enemy, is a key to establishing an effective defense. Spiritually, the Christians enemy is Satan -- the spiritual being who opposes the person and work of God. We know he is a liar and deceiver (Genesis 3:1-5), a schemer (2 Corinthians 2:11), a counterfeiter (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), and a destroyer (Revelation 9:11; Abaddon and Apollyon mean destroyer). Therefore, we must know the truth, be alert, test all things, and trust in the One who has the power of life over death. The only thing more important than knowing ones enemy is knowing the One who has already defeated him. If God were not my friend, Satan would not be so much my enemy. Thomas Brooks
