Kung fu is a Chinese word referring to any study requiring time and practice, but the term is most commonly used to describe Chinese martial arts. There are many different kung fu fighting styles, including wing chun, shaolin, wudang and tai chi chuan. Each version has its own forms which include various punching techniques that can be applied in different situations to attack or defend. Wing Chun:- The basic punch in wing chun kung fu is the straight punch. The wing chun straight punch is thrown with the knuckles aligned vertically rather than horizontally. The 12 shaolin fist strikes include the trust punch, upward-cannon punch, horn punch, diagonal punch, sweeping punch, whip punch, wave punch, chopping punch, hanging punch, smashing punch, armpit punch and throwing punch. These punches allow the fighter to attack or defend from any angle with force and precision. Wudang:- Wudang kung fu is considered one of the soft martial arts styles that focuses on generating force from within. Soft martial arts work on building inner strength, are typically defensive, and use whole body movements, according to Daoist Gate. One punch characteristic of the wudang fighting style is the uppercut punch. This punch uses an upward motion to strike the opponent, is usually applied in combination with other hand strikes, and uses the whole body to generate force for the strike. Tai Chi Chuan:- One of the most common tai chi chuan punches is the double ram fists punch. This punch is performed by first drawing your arms behind your back and then punching the opponent in his temples or upper jaw with both of your fists, according to Clears Tai Chi.
