Knowing that one of my oldest and closest friends in Paris was - TopicsExpress

Knowing that one of my oldest and closest friends in Paris was shortly to leave for Christmas in California with her French husband and sons, who now both live there, I was in the midst of writing her a happy holidays email this morning, when I stopped. I hadnt spoken to her for several months, so why was I writing an email to a close friend who was less than ten miles away? If I couldnt actually see her in the flesh, I could at least speak to her, you know, one live human voice to another. So I deleted the email, which suddenly just as pitiful as it actually was, picked up the phone and called. And we had a good long gab--over an hour and a half--just like we used to do in the old days before we all got so busy that a non-essential phone call became a luxury. Just way too busy for that. But not so busy that I dont find time to fiddle around with Facebook, Twitter, and other virtual forms of communication that are so much less satisfying for lacking the intimacy conveyed by a friends voice and ultimately being anonymous and disjointed, even if in the public eye. So we resolved that in 2015 wed devote way less cyber time cyber to being social and much more to real-life interactions.
