Knowing the reality When a person seriously starts believing that this world is temporary and death could come any moment to usher him into the world that is going to last forever then a sudden change overwhelms him. The world does not attract him any longer and he starts worrying about the world hereafter. He tries to seek the pleasure of his Creator. This world becomes a temporary sojourn for him. The person who develops a firm belief in the hereafter lives in the world but his heart remains away from it. In doing worldly activities, he keeps Allah’s pleasure foremost. For such a person Allama Iqbal said: ‘Maut ke aeenai mein dekha ke tujhe rukhe dost Jeena tere leeyae aur be dushwar ker deya’ (The love of your Creator has made for you difficult to live longer in this world). The Holy Prophet once said to his wife Syeda Ayesha: ‘O Ayesha, if you want to be with me in Jannah then you should spend your life like a traveler in this world, with minimum of luggage.’ (Tirmizi). So fearing the hereafter and accountability, one must keep the purpose of life foremost, in every activity and every moment. Only then a person will find peace, here and hereafter. ‘And certainly the hereafter is much superior in respect of excellence.’ Says Allah in Surah Bani Israel (verse21) of the Holy Quran. sm
