Knowledge of Critical Race Theory can be a tool for eliminating many systems of discrimination. Knowledge is power and knowledge can empower; we just have to be ready to accept said knowledge. Many people may have breathed a sigh of relief we they embraced the myth of a post-racial society because it allowed them freedom from the responsibility to fight against forms of racial discrimination. This myth is currently being perpetrated within the U.S Supreme Court (eliminating the Voting Rights Act is a direct example). Although the media continues to shatter this myth, denial of racism is still very strong. As a coping mechanism, denial prevents us from having to deal with loss. People may deny what is known to be true so that they do not have to deal with the grief and the changes that are a result of that loss.
