Kochadaiiyaan Review: By now there are many speculations about this movie like it is not the film for Rajni Factors, failed to deliver whats expected, not really worth for the hype promoted etc etc.. But one should bear in mind that it is not the regular feature film but it is the first film in India with high-tech motion capturing technology which was applied in Avatar and other top rated animated films in Hollywood. There are exclusive audiences in abroad seriously following for 3D animation movies. Kochadiyaan will be the first in this class in Indian cinema and it will open up the market for animation films depends on the success of this experimental project. Another best thing about this movie is to see the iconic actor Late Nagesh was reborn with the most sophisticated animation technology. Before you watch this film you should convince yourself that it is not a regular feature film or just a cartoon film for kids but Im sure this movie will give you the fresh experience of watching Indian animated film made with Indian flavor in Indian style. Debutant director Soundarya played a pivotal role to build the technical side of the film but full credit goes to K.S.Ravikumar for his gripping screenplay and he creates the perfect room for elements such as love, jealousy, patriotism, revenge, sympathy, mass and of course family sentiments with his trademark screenplay and proves again he is one among the best in the business. Though first half of the movie is quite slow phased and chaotic with poor lip sync but second half does give the feelings that we are really watching the SuperStar Movie in the form of modern animation. Antonys editing is crisper and effective in second half and surprisingly the lighting effect for this animation film is far above the Indian standard.Dialogues in the second half is sharp and custom made for the hard core superstar fans and I heard some screams and whistles during the dialogue delivery. Shobana, Sarathkumar, Jackie Shroff and Nassar lend their expressions and voice for the key characters in this historic film. Deepika Padukone is not that good to watch in animations but Nassar delivers the clinical performance in expression and voice with his trademark long nose. Music Maestro A.R. Rahman is awesome with the background score and songs are visually spectacular and synced perfectly with the screenplay for a period film. I personally loved the Maatram song with inspiring lyrics by Vairamuthu and Rajnis vocal background adds the special element to the song. Kochadaiiyaan is first ever Indian film made with photo realistic animation technology; Though this movie is not a great leap for animations compared to films like Avatar, Gravity, Tintin. Considering the extended exposure to Hollywood animation films dubbed in tamil we should appreciate the great efforts from Soundarya and Rajni for their pioneering attempt which will surely seed a lot of animation movies to bloom. Kochadiyaan is yet another Rajnis Larger than Life film made in a different format. In future with this amazing animation technology we might see the tamil version of Expendables where MGR, Sivaji, Rajni and Kamal may act as super heroes in one film, so this movie is definitely worth a watch to experience the first attempt in 3D world. Rating : 4 out of 5
