Kodaw, as it is known to the Lumads in Northern Mindanao, - TopicsExpress

Kodaw, as it is known to the Lumads in Northern Mindanao, including Higaonon, Talaandig, Banwaon, Pulangihon, Tigwanon and some Manobo tribes, or Balintos, as it is known to Lumads in North Central Mindanao including Matigsalug, Ata Manobo and other Manobo tribes, is a traditional way of delivering messages before writing came into them. It is made from a strip of rattan and is knotted in such a way the details of the message is coded in it. The number of knots represents the number of days before the sender meet or appears before the kodaw receiver. A strip is red cloth tied to the kodaw denotes a demand. Manilakbayanis and a vast number of support groups from Southern Tagalog and National Capital Region tied kodaws in the barbed wires of Mendiola Peace Arch gate, demanding BS Aquino to address the issues the Manilakbayanis raised and he has to do it within 5 days per kodaws message. Or else, the senders will be back, ready to do anything they could to push their demands, as if in war.
