Komolithoi (geological phenomenon), Potamida,Kissamos // Chania region, Crete // Greece. Komolithoi is one of the strangest and most interesting landscapes in Crete. One will meet them in the village Potamida near Kissamos, in the valley of Tiflos Potamos (greek=Blind River), about 35 km west of Chania town. These separate hills consist of soft clay which over time, some erosion has given them these wonderful formations. The landscape will remind you of Cappadocia and a similar one is found only at Asproulas area in Koufonissi islet (Lasithi region,Crete). Located just meters from the houses in a very fertile plain is what truly makes it a rare piece of land and quite special since it stands out over the fields of the plains. Large and small meteors are created, completely bare of vegetation on the sides, but with bushes on the top, offering to the spectator a sharp contrast. Climbing is easy onto Komolithoi as well as a walk among them.
