Kon nichi wa, Mick San! Check out this interesting film, about Okinawa during the war, and after, depicting military actions on Okinawa, 45- 50s. Awase Meadows Country Club and Pool as I remember it, lol! My mothers Okinawan village and her family perished during the war, but those who survived thrived after the war. My great uncle and cousins, along with the locals, helped the military with the construction of bases, roads, new buildings, businesses, schools, and the university. So much work was generated for the Okinawan work force, who received the training and jobs. My mothers cousin became an Engineer at Torii Station, and is now retired, 83+ years old, living with his wife, in a very nice 3 story house with a small garden that he tends lovingly, enjoying life with grandkids and great grandkids. Such a paradox, ne! I was a product of the Korean Conflict, when my Marine Corps Sgt. dad was stationed on Okinawa, and fell in love with my mother, who was 20 years old, and working on the base as a housekeeper. She didnt have the opportunity for formal education past 3rd grade, and didnt take classes until after she married, taking Naturalization classes to become a US citizen. Getting a bit old, I am, and trying to keep my memories intact of the past, and important times, to share...... XOXO, Masami https://youtube/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=UUM-kjdrQge9AACfB3MSRyrg&v=ZAVrbe7qUqc#t=1231
