Kopin Malta are organizing a summer school... Poverty…Human Rights…Migration…Sustainability…Development… Why Should We Bother? A Global Campus Summer School to explore, discuss and debate the issues September 12th – 14th, 2014 We have all heard about these issues and their importance here in Malta and across the World but how often do we get the chance to explore them together and to debate different perspectives and worldviews? Why are these issues important and why should we bother about them? What is their relevance in our own lives and in Malta generally? Why are there such divergent views and perspectives? What are Malta’s responsibilities with regard to the issues – where do they begin…and end? KOPIN believes strongly that discussion and debate on these and other questions is vitally important for Malta’s future and for its role in the world in the years ahead. This Summer School, organised within the framework of the EU project Global Campus and under the degreeplus programme at the University of Malta, is designed to provide an opportunity to explore these challenges and to debate different and often divergent perspectives. The Summer School will take place over 3 days with the following broad agenda: Friday, 12th September, 2.30pm to 5.30pm: How do we see the issues and how do we understand them? Why are they important and why should we be bothered to deal with them? Saturday, 13th September, 9.30am to 4.30pm: Migration: its significance for Malta and for migrants; a chance to explore the realities and the challenges for both migrants and for Malta. How do I understand the issues and what is my role and responsibilities? Sunday, 14th September, 9.30am to 1.30pm: Sustainability: an individual, community, national and international responsibility? What can and should an individual do and how do we understand our roles?
