Korbin has had another great day! He is off the pain pump now - TopicsExpress

Korbin has had another great day! He is off the pain pump now which means he doesnt have to constantly stay hooked up to the monitors, just his pole which is a few less wires to deal with. MRIs weight is back down to normal, his stomach is getting smaller and his labs are still heading in the right direction. Praise God! Today he had to have his dressing changed, which wasnt as bad as it has been. His skin is still a little raw, but with this new dressing we are hoping it can heal up. They have changed his parameters on his labs so instead of not letting his platelets get below 50, they changed it to 30. Normally they transfuse when you get to 20. He got platelets once a shift in the past 24 hrs which is an improvement. They cut back on his diuretics since his weight is improving. He still needs a lot of potassium supplements but that will hopefully improve since he wont be getting so many diuretics. We receive a very sweet homemade ornament in the mail today for Korbins Christmas tree in his room. Thank you, Joyce. Today was also button day. The kids get to make 18 buttons with their picture on them and hand them out to the staff or trade with other kids. (You can see in the picture, Molly is wearing a button of Kaleb and Korbin) Since we have been here at Duke, we (Kaleb particularly) have become very close to the child life therapist, Molly. Today was her last day here at Duke because she is moving. We were hoping we got to leave first, but we had to say goodbye today. It seems like we have known her forever! We plan on keeping in touch with her. Kaleb is really going to miss her tomorrow. He ask about her every day! She has also been so wonderful with Korbin and helping him cope with medical issues such as his dressing change. She has trained another great child life therapist to take her place. We wish her best of luck on her new job. We know she will bless many other families. (Kaleb was embarrassed in the picture with Molly). Thank you for your prayers for Korbin. He has another ultrasound on Monday.
