[Korea Debate Open and Call for Subsidized Adjudicators] Dear Asia, We would like to invite you to the 1st Korea Debate Open, the first international tournament to be held in Korea that brings debaters from the high school circuit to the dinosaur alumni to come together to compete, engage and become friends. Organized by Debate for All, Inc. and hosted by SolBridge International School of Business, KDO aims to create a vibrant debate community between various circuits and to prepare debaters in East Asia for the upcoming Worlds by creating a top-notch debate tournament, accessible within the region. 1. Tournament Overview Team Cap: 60 Eligibility: High school and above British Parliamentary Debate Format 6 Rounds, Quarter Finals - Finals, EFL Semi Finals - Finals Registration Fee (per debater/adjudicator) - 120USD (without accommodation) - 320USD (with 3 nights in a twin-bed at a 4-star hotel, currently under negotiation) 6 meals, 2 socials (break night, championship dinner) 2. Date & Venue 2014/12/19 - 12/21 (Check-in on 18th) SolBridge International School of Business, Daejeon, KOREA 3. Team Convener: Hyewon Noelle Rho Adjudication Core: Dohhee Roh (Korea, NEAO CA, ASDC Co-CA), Brett Frazer (U.S, WUDC DCA), Yuki Oka (Japan, WUDC Breaking Judge), Sungryul Park (Korea, WUDC ESL Semi-Finalist), Siron Pereira (Malaysia, ASDC CA) 4. Adjudicator Policy N-1 for Institutional Teams (from the same institution) Composite Teams (debaters from two different institutions) do NOT need to fulfill the N rule. 5. Registration Timeline PHASE ONE | Registration of Slots (10/22 - 11/5) # of teams (debaters, adjudicators) & plan (with or without accommodation) Teams registering after the maximum capacity (60 teams) will be waitlisted until Phase 3. PHASE TWO | Payment (11/6 - 11/16) Plan A (without accommodation): 120USD / per participant Plan B (with accommodation): 320USD / per participant PHASE THREE | Additional Registration (11/17 - 11/27) Waitlisted teams will be granted slots and directly proceed to payment. Adjudicator Subsidy In any tournaments, the number of experienced and accomplished judges is an integral factor that determines quality. Korea Debate Open is very much looking for judges with achievements in BP debates. We hope to attract judges from diverse backgrounds, who have exceptional talents in judging BP tournaments, and who will help add depth and flavor to this event. Application for Adjudicator Subsidy will be open from November 1 to November 7. Its only a simple form that you need to fill, but the more detailed it is, the better! The subsidy covers up to registration fee (6 meals + 2 socials), hotels (3 nights), and travel expenses.
