Korish comes back with a feature win By: Ashley Iwanski (West Salem, WI – August 17, 2013) Todd Korish faced a huge challenge in the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature Saturday night at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. He had to stop the duo of Mike and Steve Carlson to capture the checkered flag. Korish, who was involved in the eight-car pileup in last week’s feature, jumped to an early lead after starting the race in the third spot. It didn’t take long before Mike Carlson was in his rearview mirror. Steve Carlson then fell in line behind his son, followed by Mike Koeneke in fourth. From there it was a bumper-to-bumper cat and mouse game as the top four cars cruised around the track. Mike Carlson was looking for a chance to make a run on Korish while Koeneke was running the high and low lines waiting for the perfect opportunity to squeeze past Steve Carlson. As the laps ticked by and time was winding down the racing got tighter and tighter. None of top four drivers were willing to give an inch on the track. Someone was going to have to make a mistake. With two laps to go Koeneke started to make a run on Steve Carlson on the high side entering Turn 1. But as they two rounded Turn 2 Steve Carlson pushed ahead forcing Koeneke back into the fourth spot. On the final lap there was no space between the front pack. It was their last chance to gain any position. But no one moved an inch. Not one error was made as Korish led Mike Carlson, Steve Carlson and Mike Koeneke across the finish line, respectively. Cole Howland rounded out the top 5. Jake Arneson held off Jamie Dummer and Greg Scheck after a green-white-checkered restart on the last lap of the Exhaust Plus Sportsmen feature. Arneson was leading the race when contact was made between Steve Bachman and Jimmy Gilster, who were in the second and third spots. Gilster spun on the backstretch bringing out the caution and both restarted in the back of the field. The race restarted with one lap to go with Scheck in the second spot and Dummer in third. As the field came around Turn 1 Scheck pulled up beside Arneson, but he couldn’t get the pass. Scheck fell back and as the checkered flag waved Dummer narrowly took the second spot, followed by Scheck. Jerrod Loging and Bill Martin finished fourth and fifth. Arneson was able to secure a 33 point lead over Scheck in the points standings with his feature win. Jason Bolster and Adam Moore battled for the top spot in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature. Both raced their way up from the back of the field. And as cars were spinning out behind them, Bolster held on strong to the top spot as Moore grabbed second. Jesse Vian finished third, Jordan Myers fourth and Brad Warthan fifth. Moore narrowly leads Myers in the points standings by 14. The ANTS Complete Pest Control Hornets joined the racing action Saturday night with two features. Tony Leis found his way to Victory Lane in the first feature, while Jake Schomers followed him there in the second feature. There’s only two nights of racing action left before the 2013 regular season comes to an end. Saturday, Aug. 24 join us for State Bank Financial Buck Night!
