Kristen and Jim Harrison of the Kentucky Reptile Zoo discuss the Grand Canyon rattlesnake (Crotalus abyssus), with a fine old critter serving as a model. You will notice the very long rattle on this animal: the snake is over thirty years old, and because it is old it doesnt do much, as Kristen puts it. Therefore it does nothing that might break its rattle segments off. Pay close attention to the discussion on the maternal instincts of rattlesnakes. That alone makes the video worth watching. Theyre good mothers, which makes them worthy of respect. (That and the fact that they are magnificent critters, fellow Earthlings just trying to get through their days like the rest of us). --TmC
