Krypto loves people… and for 90% of the parade last night, she was really happy and calm. She walked along the sideline of people, greeting each person and getting petted a lot. She absorbed super energy from the attention (like sunlight) and meeting everyone… …but a couple times during the lengthy walk, she got really startled. It was dark and we were walking down a narrow aisle through a swarm of people who were screaming as loud as they could. Hundreds of hands reached out towards her and dozens of strangers called her by name (Krypto and/or Superdog); this seemed to confuse her… I held her leash as secure as possible and talked aloud to her to try to calm her down… Though at one point, Krypto was so nervous, she started pulling at her leash and jerked around in circles!! I knelt down beside her, held her face within my hands, looked her in the eye and said: >>“Shhhh. FOCUS ON MY VOICE. PRETEND IT’S AN ISLAND OUT IN THE OCEAN OF NOISE. CAN YOU SEE IT? THEN SWIM TOWARDS IT, SUPERGIRL.” She was a lot more at ease after that…. (Yeah, I edited the line a bit; it’s more appropriate, lol) I spoke to her often as we kept walking and—despite the zombie hoards of screaming people closing in on her, lol--was a super super dog for the rest of the march ^_^ ~~I
