“Kuch Festival” of the indigenous Wakhi people in the scenic Broghil Valley – a return to winter settlements Broghil, September 02: Wakhi people in Broghil valley Chitral celebrated “Kuch Festival” on return of their cattles and yaks from the high mountain pastures. According to Umar Rafee-a local social activist, “the local communities spend three to four months (June to end of September) with yaks and other cattle’s in the higher meadows and pasture lands. We spend maximum one month in each pasture and keep moving to different places. Once winter start, we used to move down valleys called winter settlements.” Broghil valley is 13,000 feet above sea level, located at the junction of Chitral, Wakhan and Tajikistan.
